What began as a typical Monday at the Sun Bum headquarters/beach house, quickly turned into a half day party when about 100 or more fans mobbed the crowded back porch after catching wind of the unpublicized concert.

Collie Buddz, who last week won “Best Reggae Rock Entertainer of the Year” at the International Reggae and World Music Awards, with New Kingston, was rolling through town on their way up the coast to finish off their mind altering “Light It Up” tour. The hour long set included hits like Come Around and Blind To You, and freestylin’ to some old reggae classics.

After the show the band hung out with fans, signed Sonny, signed the porch wall, shot some nine ball, and had a few beverages before making their way to the beach for some laughs. Special thanks and much love to Collie Buddz, New Kingston (Tahir, Courtney, Steve), Alexis, and the whole road crew for stoking out Sonny’s Porch today.

Iron Jayne, a breakthrough force in the underground music scene stopped by Sonny’s Porch yesterday on the final day of their wildly successful Honeymoon Beach Tour. The foursome, who hail from Atlanta GA, cruised up in their hand painted mid-90′s Astrovan and took full advantage of the Sun Bum beach house/office and the insanely perfect 80 degree temps.

After a mandatory dip in the Atlantic, and equally mandatory PBR, Iron Jayne blew our minds with their high energy psychedelic sound that definitely brought out the neighbors. Big thanks to Emily Kempf (Vocals, Keys), Ryan Odom (guitar) Chad LeBlanc (bass), and Garrett Goss (drums) for the most stoked Tuesday we’ve had in a long while.

North Shore, Oahu (February 25th, 2013)- With unusually strong trade winds plaguing the local surf breaks, the Sun Bum crew took the second stop of their 2013 Bum Rush Tour to the reliable concrete at A’ala Skate Park in Honolulu, Hawaii. “The waves weren’t happening, and we had a $1,000 dollar check to give away, so we decided to throw a 20-minute skate jam at the park,” explained Sun Bum’s, Dustin Smith.

The impromptu contest was judged by legendary skateboarder and cofounder of The Berrics, Steve Berra, APB Boardshop owner, Chad Hiyakumoto, and Flow Skateboard Magazine founder, Chris Sekigawa. With judges like that, and a grand on the line, the 10-15 local skaters were amped and pushed their limits to impress the judges with the best trick.

The winner, 24-year old, Shota Kubo took home the bacon after launching out of the ramp into an insane backside 50-50 on the chain link fence hand rail, then air dropped back into the sketchy concrete bank.

“I am stoked”, the winner explained, “It’s my first time ever winning a prize for skating.” Shota’s father is iconic Dogtown skater and pioneer, Shogu Kubo. “Yeah, my dad will be proud”, the champagne soaked Shota grinned.

After a few unsuccessful surf checks at Rocky Lefts and Sunset, the Sun Bum crew stumbled upon near perfect conditions at the famed surf spot known as Velzyland to signal the start the company’s 2013 Bum Rush Tour.

The tour, which posts up completely unannounced at famous surf breaks throughout North America and gives whoever is in the water a quick chance to win a cheap champagne shower and a big fat check for $1,000 bucks.

Sebastian Williams, who hails from Oaxaca, Mexico, was shredding the overhead surf with his Billabong Bloodlines surf camp friends when the Sun Bum Crew pulled up. “When I heard the horn, I was like, ‘oh, is there a surf contest going on?’, beamed the 12-year old winner, “but I didn’t see anyone with rash guards or anything.”

Three local judges Geoff Auberien, Waimea McKeague, and Kai’mana Merrill picked Sebastian, one of the youngest surfers in the water, as the clear winner for his uncanny ability to read the sections and flawless cutbacks. “Sebastian was killing it out there”, explained Dustin Smith, from Sun Bum, “he definitely picked off some of the best waves of the session.

Sebastian plans on buying a MacBook Air with his winnings.

Sun Bum was invaded by a mob of fake-mustached fans who caught wind that Donavon Frankenreiter had stopped by the company’s Cocoa Beach office for a little R&R and a high noon jam session on “Sonny’s Porch”.

The Hawaii-based singer/songwriter and his band were traveling between gigs along the Florida coast in support of their latest album entitled “Start Livin’”, when they decided to stop and play on the company’s little back deck that has attracted bands this year like The Growlers, Maps & Atlases, Surfer Blood, and Cotton Jones.

Donavon played 6 songs for the 30 or so stoked out fans, signed some albums, and hung out for a while before heading out for a gig that night in Orlando. Mustaches definitely got a lot cooler today.

Cotton Jones took a break from their US tour, and stopped by our Cocoa Beach office to grace our ear drums with their soothing melodies.

The band consists of 6 members with vocals from Michael Nau and his wife Whitney McGraw. Their harmonies together are absolutely incredible. They are super nice and it was our pleasure having them hang out for the day.

Surfer Blood stopped by Sonny’s Porch yesterday for some much needed southern surf hospitality after finishing up their latest east coast tour.

The band took refuge from the scorching Florida sun at the Sun Bum headquarters in Cocoa Beach, drank some cool beverages, and went for a surf after blasting a rockin set that included “Floating Vibes”, “Swim”, “Take in Easy”, and “Miranda” on the company’s back porch for passersby or the lucky 30, or so, fans who got word of the bands arrival.

The band hung out into the night before heading back to their hometown of West Palm Beach where they will begin preparing for a series of concerts put on by Hurley, called “Hurley Rocks You Back To School”, that begins in August.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (July 15, 2012) – After kicking off the 2012 tour with three stops in Hawaii and two in California, we brought the Bum Rush Tour, a unique ambush style surf contest, back to our home state of Florida today for stop number six.

What makes it unique? There are no qualifiers, no entry fees, no applications, and you don’t even know when or where it’s going to happen. We just pull up to a random beach, sound a horn and 20 minutes later call a surfer out of the water, shower them with cheap champagne, and hand them a big fat check for one thousand dollars.

But today’s contest wasn’t typical. With little to no waves on the Gulf Coast today the Sun Bum crew decided to hold a skimboard contest after seeing a group of kids shredding the Upton Beach shoreline. The winner, 24 year-old Stephen Bradford, from just up the road in Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., caught the judges’ eyes with his style, enthusiasm and energy.

“We had about seven skimmers on the beach trading off on the ankle-high shore break,” said Event Director Dustin Smith. “It was cool watching them boost air even off the tiniest of waves. Unfortunately, sometimes skimboarders get left out of the whole surfing world, so it was pretty cool to give them some much-deserved love, Congrats Stephen!”
